The Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLU) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that tracks an index measuring around 30 utility companies listed on the S&P 500 stock index in the US. It provides exposure to companies from the electric, water, gas, renewables, and multi-utilities industries, as well as independent power producers (IPP). The fund was created in 1998 and has net assets of $12.44bn, with an expense ratio of 0.12%. Top-weighted holdings within XLU include NextEra Energy, Southern Company, Duke Energy, American Water Works, Exelon, Sempra Energy, and American Electric Power Company.
