About National Grid
National Grid is a British utility company and one of the world’s largest distributors of electricity and gas. It operates across the UK, transmitting energy to businesses and institutions, as well as direct to customers in the US, connecting millions of people to the system. The holding company was established in 1990 as a successor of the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) with headquarters in London. National Grid operates in the business areas of power distribution, electricity transmission, electricity system operation and gas transmission, as well as owning several subsidiaries engaging in renewable energy generation such as wind and solar power. It also owns the corporate venture capital and innovation Group, National Grid Partners, which invests in start-ups involved in energy and emerging technology.
